Old: Pokemon Heart Gold

Assume, uh, spoilers through the whole Johto region. Um. Not that I actually talk about the story or anything when it's Pokemon we're dealing with.
8/07/2010.
I FINALLY have eight badges in Heart Gold. :( This is what happens you slack off for months and only start playing again once everyone else is totally done with the game. But yeah, so I was on my way to Blackthorn, recognized the route as the one that has Remoraids, and was like "OH MAN I NEED TO GET ME AN OCTILLERY."
... Apparently all of my Pokemon are too strong. Everything kept killing the stupid fish in one hit. :( I had to use my Jumpluff (Leech Seed+Stun Spore+Synthesis+Splash = instant victory no matter what you are trying to accomplish) to catch them. So I caught a nice one, and named it Rebecca. And that's a reference to a very hilarious book called Animals of the Ocean, in Particular the Giant Squid. There's a page in it titled "Seven Cautionary Tales About Octopuses and Otters" and one of the stories goes like this:
"Rebecca. There are times when I think this name sounds harsh. Does it sound like being slapped? Sometimes it does, to me. She was a fiery one, this octopus named Rebecca. She carried a violin case everywhere with her, for she wanted people to think she was a violinist. She was not a violinist. She played no stringed instruments. Inside her violin case was not a violin, but a muskrat. And inside the muskrat was a heart, a stomach, some veins, and some blood. The muskrat had no name because he had been raised by otters."
... And that's it. It just seemed right since it was female, Octillery's an octopus, and can learn Flamethrower for no reason. :( But yeah, so I wasted a bunch of EXP on this new addition to my team, and after dying to one of the trainers in Blackthorn's gym, my in-game mother calls and informs me of her terrible money-saving habits, and that she has bought something with my money. Lucky me, it turned out to be a Choice Scarf. I could have killed so many Dratinis easier if I had that before. :(
Also, I ended up ditching Octillery pretty much as soon as I beat Clair. I've made Octillery's notgoodforbeinguseful stats manageable in a Trick Room team in the past, but I figured for just going through the game there wouldn't even be a problem since fighting the AI is much simpler than fighting real people who are capable of learning. Apparently I was wrong though. :( Can't get past that low speed on a Pokemon that has like no staying power.
My fight with Clair was pretty hilarious though. Basically, I just sent out my Crobat first, confused her Gyarados, then switched to Steelix and screeched and threw rocks until it died/killed itself. She sent out her Kingdra next (which I have absolutely nothing good to use against) so I sent out my Quagsire, and played mindgames with her. Quagsire was able to survive through Hyper Beams/Dragon Pulses really well with Amnesia, and has Water Absorb so Hydro Pump healed me... eventually she ran out of healing items AND PP, so I got to see Kingdra kill itself with Struggle's recoil. That was so great.
Then I decided to go do those new routes by Cianwood since I hadn't done them yet. Oh, I also grabbed a Tyrogue from Mt. Mortar or whatever, and turned it into a Hitmonlee named Tytree, because I'm crazy. :( And I was trying to catch a good Misdreavus (seriously, the first four I caught were all different +attack natures. What horrible luck) and ended up finding a shiny Onix. Yay, I guess? Shiny Onixes/Steelixes are pretty ugly, though. And though this one actually has a really great nature for what it is (Impish, which is +defense -special attack) it had HORRIBLE IVs. Yeah... Defense and Attack were like, both in the range of 0-4, from what I remember. Not like I would have used it anyway though, since I like the normal colors for Onix/Steelix way better. Now, the stats and stuff (and how fitting some of it is considering the names) for the... 7ish Pokemon I'm kind of juggling.
• Elraine the Noctowl: Timid nature, Highly persistent. Ability is Insomnia. Attacks: Confusion, Hypnosis, Uproar, Air Slash. Stats: Lv33, HP 114, Attack 35, Defense 45, Sp Atk 60, Sp Def 75, Speed 63. SHE HAS A SHINY LEAF BY THE WAY. It's all... shiny and stuff.
• HUG~! :) the Quagsire: Naughty nature, Mischievous. Ability is Water Absorb. Attacks: Waterfall, Dig, Amnesia, Rock Smash. Stats: Lv32, HP 110, Attack 67, Defense 68, Sp Atk 59, Sp Def 49, Speed 35.
• Zzbat the Crobat: Impish nature, Quick to flee. Ability is Inner Focus. Attacks: Wing Attack, Confuse Ray, Bite, Fly. Stats: Lv31, HP 101, Attack 68, Defense 68, Sp Atk 49, Sp Def 62, Speed 97.
• KUREAAAAA! the Arcanine: Careful nature, Sturdy body. Ability is Flash Fire. Attacks: Flame Wheel, Reversal, Crunch, Fire Fang. Stats: Lv30, HP 97, Attack 81, Defense 62, Sp Atk 63, Sp Def 63, Speed 66.
• Barbatos the Steelix: Quirky nature, Capable of taking hits. Ability is Rock Head. Attacks: Rock Throw, Screech, Rock Tomb, Strength. Stats: Lv30, HP 95, Attack 60, Defense 135, Sp Atk 39, Sp Def 45, Speed 26.
• Tytree the Hitmonlee: Adamant nature, Strong willed. Ability is Limber. Attacks: Tackle, Focus Energy, Fake Out, Foresight (shh, I haven't learned any good attacks yet). Stats: Lv22, HP 59, Attack 70, Defense 34, Sp Atk 18, Sp Def 60, Speed 50.
• HOPHOPHOP the Jumpluff: Naive nature, Likes to relax. Ability is Leaf Guard. Attacks: Splash, Stun Spore, Leech Seed, Synthesis. Stats: Lv29, HP 91, Attack 38, Defense 50, Sp Atk 45, Sp Def 49, Speed 83.
So yeah. Too many physical attackers in my team right now, but I'm not sure how to fix it without using Pokemon I don't feel like using. Oh well. ANYWAY THAT'S IT FOR NOW BYE.

Alright, first the Pokemon progress I made since my last entry. Basically, um... when fighting the Kimono Girls and all their silly Eevee evolutions, I took down Umbreon. Then Espeon killed all of my Pokemon except for Arcanine and Quagsire, and Flareon killed Arcanine. And then Quagsire killed everything else. And then later I kept making Ho-Oh kill itself with struggle until I had a friend get a Heart Scale for me so I could teach Quagsire Yawn. That worked out PERFECTLY. Amnesia means that none of Ho-oh's attacks can do decent damage, and Yawn means I can put it to sleep to actually have a chance at catching it. :( Quagsire's way better than some people give it credit for.
