Assume spoilers for the whole game. Not that there's, uh, much to spoil.

I played Earth Defense Force 2017 without the air conditioner on a few days ago. The voice acting is pretty hilarious since like everyone is Lex Lang. And then all the little Lex Langs make me feel bad when I accidentally kill someone because they ran right in front of me when I was shooting a rocket launcher. HORNST! LESTEEER! and all that. Except... actually from this game instead of a Xenosaga line that nobody other than me would ever remember. I have problems. And unfortunately the narratorperson is voiced by Karen Strassman. I am apparently alone in this but I do not like her voice at all and I never have.

I cleared through stage 20 I think, and my completion is at 14.72%. So loooow. But anyway. So I got to stage 14 and rejoiced. The reason I play these games! Giant laser robots that spawn crazy numbers of enemies. The kind of amount that makes you suddenly panic two minutes later when you're getting so horribly destroyed and you're so surrounded by enemies that you look at the radar and find out you're alone. These awesome boxes I can drag into battle to spit out turrets sure do help in these situations. I also had to turn off the Screen Shake thingy once I got here because there was too much going on and I couldn't see anything with everything shaking and exploding and lasering all at once.

I played like a bunch of EDF3 today and yesterday. I liked the music that played when the mothership starting flying on stage 30. But then I was disappointed because it was actually flying away and that meant I didn't get to fight it yet. But I did get to fight two drone ants that just sent these crazy waves of constant fire through the small cave we were in in one fight (they said the queen was in there but I never saw it or its corpse) and I got to kill one of the walking fortresses. The walking fortresses are actually kind of boring. I WANT MORE STUFF LIKE THE NAGLFAR AND JORMUNGANDR IN THIS GAME. And my mission completion is at 28.68%, so that's good progress considering I haven't even beat the game yet.

I beat Earth Defense Force 2017/3/whatever you want to call it. Not as awesome as Zangeki and was a little lacking in awesomebosses, but it's still fun and the Mothership did not disappoint. All those laserrrs. I did 19 stages of Hard mode and some of it was hard. The stages with the walking fortress are awful. It's those tall robot dudes when it spawns them in swarms that make them so bad.

But I went and did the two Dino-mech stages on all the difficulties. Even on Inferno they were easy to kill once I got used to the helicopter, and then I got some grenade launcher with better damage than most of the stuff I have right now and that got me through the first of those stages... not the second. Oh well. I'm convinced I can kill the robodinomechmechbot without getting hit if I used the tank (if only there was a helicopter on this stage) to move around and come out to shoot homing missiles when he's not shooting lasers at me. Maybe he'll drop some awesome weapons on those difficulties I shouldn't be touching yet.

Played more EDF3 and got my percentage up to 61.51%. It took me forever to figure out how to beat 23 on Hard, but then I realized the reason I kept getting swarmed at the last 2-3 nests was because the explosions from my rocket launchers were messing with nearby bugs and everything's so close together when you get down to the last few. So yeah.

I used Lysander 2 to snipe all the nests instead, and sniped incoming bugs too (and had turrets set before I shot at any nest in case stuff got too close, which it usually did since sniper rifles shoot really slowly). But hey, at least I didn't get skewered by thousands of red ants or killed in the span of two seconds by a horde of spiders, right? I hate those spiders so much. I'd rather fight three motherships at once than fight more than one spider at a time. Anyway, I think I only have six stages left for Hard. Of course they're all spider stages. Yay...

Finally beat Hard completely in Earth Defense Force 2017! I also have like 20 stages done in Hardest and 4 or 5 on Inferno. Why is it that I can be skipping difficulties like that yet I spend ages dying constantly on the same stage over and over again on Hard... and I'm talking about stages that I don't even remember from Normal (if I don't remember it it can't have been very difficult). But ugh. Spearhead (43 I think) and Wrath (48... I think.) were horrible. I think I beat Spearhead on the same day that I got down to just those two stages, but I had so many failed attempts before I finally realized it was dumb to pretend the ant hill across the river didn't exist.

But how am I supposed to think about that when it's just black ants and there are SPIDERS IN THE RIVER VALLEY THING. There is like no good way to approach the spider hole from any direction other than the one you would be facing were you to cross the river, go up on the hill leading into the valley and take it down once you get past the houses. Also, apparently people on gamefaqs ignored the red ant hole. How the. That was always the second (actually the first on my successful attempt since I realized I had enough time to kill it and the robotdude over there before I could even get to the nearby black ant nest) thing I went for.

And then for 48 everything I thought up failed except for using Cascade 2+C70. Strategy? Get in the tank and shoot everything up until it dies, then lay some C70 and either shoot self and detonate, or get bit by red ant and detonate. Worked perfectly, although I did have to retry it a lot before I could figure out how to deal with the spiders in the last wave. C70 wasn't working very well. They also jumped onto me on numerous occasions, leading to instant death because one does not simply walk outside of a spider. But webs do walk into spider. In fact they come from spider. So, instant death. I stuck to shooting them up with Cascade 2 once everything else was dead.

I also did a really stupid thing. I was doing stage 7 on Hardest, and I kind of lost track of the second UFO while dealing with the first one so I wasn't able to get rid of it on the first spawn. So I followed it, sometimes turning back to the swarms of ants and shooting a bunch of missiles in that general direction (no doubt succeeding more at killing my own dudes than ants) and then one time after doing that I looked back up at the UFO, which was right above me at that point... and it was open. Oh boy. I killed it quickly and tried to back off but that didn't work well and I'm pretty sure that was what Hell is supposed to look like. FIRE EVERYWHERE I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING BUT FIRE. I'm shocked I didn't die.

Also I think I must play around with the mecha thing. I've always found tanks pretty awesome, the dumb bike thing to have SOME use, and man I used helicopters to take down dinomech and dual dinomechs on Inferno, when I had only beat Normal. Those things are amazing. Seems odd that with all this surprising usefulness the mecha thing would remain useless. There must be a secret! I will find it!

I want to complete EDF3 before EDF4 comes out (WHICH BY THE WAY I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT), so I've been playing it. I finally beat hardest, so I'm at 87.17% completion and I'm only missing 11 weapons. It's funny how GameFAQs people were right when they said "HEY TRY NOT PLAYING THE GAME FOR A WHILE" because I was able to beat 49/Elite on like my first try with the same strategy I had been using forever. And I think I was just having bad luck on 33 and 34 before, because the walking fortress was much less rude and didn't do the whole trying to walk on me thing much.

The ones that still had me stuck for a while were 43/Spearhead and 52/Inferno. I know the last time I posted here about Spearhead I was all like "how can you ignore the red ant nest just kill it on your way to the nearest nest" but durr. On Hardest that was getting me killed by infernos from black ants and the spiders would usually be on me before the hector over there went down. Just ignored it, killed a black ant nest, laid down missile turrets to handle spiders while I sniped the other black ant nest and its hector, then shot up the red ant nest+hector and reloaded turrets. After that it was about the same. Beeline for the tank to get to the other side of the river, then I laid down turrets to cover me from the spiders while I sniped their nest. Phew.

Inferno was absurd. If the two parts of this stage were separate stages they'd both be okay, but nope. I just can't handle gunships anymore without an assault rifle or having turrets do all the dirty work, but I absolutely needed a sniper rifle to take down the UFOs in the second part. I found that again, the trick isn't just turrets. It's missile turrets. I don't like using them because I often get shot by them, but they clear out enemies, especially gunships, way better than machinegun turrets. On my successful attempt I actually totally forgot about the huge ant until suddenly FIRE EVERYWHERE IN MY FACE and man, I'm so surprised I actually survived. Lysander F saves the day with its absurd damage.

As for Inferno progress... um, it's okay. Getting stuck on stages like 8, 11, and 16 kind of hurts the morale a bit, but I'm sure with some of these I'm just doing poorly because I've forgotten what's even in the stage since it wasn't difficult before. Also, abusing the horses out of ZEX-LAUNCHER. That one beach stage where the walking fortress first shows up and just spawns a ton of gunships and hectors? I just kept tossing out missile turrets and hiding behind rocks. It works!

I'm also really curious to see what my last stage completed on Inferno will end up being. On Hard it was apparently Wrath (dunno which number or stage that was) though Spearhead was still the second to last stage I beat. On Hardest it was Inferno. I'm sure Spearhead will be the second to last stage I beat in Inferno, but what will be the True Final Boss for me? It sure isn't going to be the mothership. I, uh, also wonder how much health I'll have. I have like 3700 right now, but it seems like a lot of people beat Inferno with 7000~ health, not to mention the use of a second controller (possibly also a second player) for some stages. I can't imagine farming for that much health, and have no second controller. I will find a way, though!
