Spoilers for literally the whole game. All the stories, anything special that happens after you beat all of them, etc.

I started and beat Eternal Poison/Poison Pink. Which had like, no pink in it. Clearly not worthy of its original title. But I do love its music... still, since I was listening to the soundtrack way back before it ever even came out in English. I did Thage's story, which was really short and I'm pretty sure I got the bad ending somehow despite having followed a guide to ensure I didn't get the bad ending. Or was that seriously supposed to be the normal/good ending...? I mean that's a pretty awful ending if it is. It's just like. Stuff's happening, and then suddenly you see the credits. Also, I pretty much did the whole last stratum or whatever and final battles with just Thage and Raki. Everyone else kept dying all the time. Except the game is super easy even with just those two so it didn't really matter. I'm doing Ashley's story next. I better hear some Sister of Troy and Izat this time!

I had started on Ashley's Tale a while ago, so I continued from where I left off with that. I recruited the mercenary Ares because she looks cool and it doesn't really matter since I just use mercenaries as bait and/or buffers/healers anyway. But it turns out she's actually useful for a lot. She's so mobile and speedy and she has all these Evade skills. She can usually get chests before any random Thieflers, she's good at luring Majin to where I am, good at capturing overkilled Majin before jerks finish off or release them... and since she's pretty weak Majin like attacking her, except they never hit her because of all the Evade skills. I'm also finding Bleed Atk from her very useful for bosses. She doesn't do a ton of damage since I don't keep her at a decent level so it is not like she will accidentally kill them when I'm just trying to make them bleed to get a happy 1 HP to deal with.

Anyway enough about that. What is up with these characters. Glynne's always screaming about how Reyna is some sort of untrustworhy young lad, and Ashley's just like "hang on a sec I'm busy going insane STOP INTERRUPTING ME DAMN IT AND STOP FIGHTING" so Glynne is all "oh i'm sorry... not." and I don't know. :( I hate Glynne so much all he does is freak out and act like an asshole for the entire game. Anyway. Ignis's stage is kind of ridiculous. There are Heeflers which will just eat anything that looks really really dead, Pyromotes that'll just revive anything that looks really really dead, and Ignis's demon aura just so happens to require three separate attacks to break.

And for people who don't play this game/just don't know, bosses with demon auras will run away after a certain amount of turns if you don't break their demon aura. I kind of didn't bother overkilling everything since it would be way too much of a hassle and take too much time. And right after Ignis was Gergedeus, who was probably more annoying for me in the end. I got him down to 5 HP and was totally ready to do a combo attack to overkill him with Ashley and Reyna, but then suddenly... he inflicts fear on both of them. So I can't do anything and have to sit around for multiple turns hoping to not die before it cures itself.

And theeen I fought Doom Shade again. I was never able to overkill him on my first playthrough with Thage, so I tried pretty hard to do it this time (I don't think I'll have a story character who does striking damage again after Ashley's story, so that made it kind of important too) I got him down to 2 HP, and Punishment from his back with my strongest mace did... 360 damage exactly. That's his overkill amount. Meaning, since he had 2 HP I was 2 damage short of the overkill. Rage!

But then I tried again because I was so close (I unequipped Seabane for Sinner to raise her ATK a little) and then did 370 when he was at 7 HP. That works! Now to never fight him again. Or at least never try to overkill him again since he's actually really easy to beat, just hard to overkill. I'll probably finish Ashley's story tomorrow and then I guess start Olifen's and then ditch the game for a few months again. I don't know why this game feels so chorelike after only 10 hours despite being pretty fun the first time you pick it up after having not played it for a while (or ever).

Olifen's Tale went horribly. His strata 1 boss, Kaelrunis, was just a massive jerk to me and everything that could have possibly gone wrong did. Most notably a failure to overkill him when half the enemies were still alive. There goes a bunch of EXP. And then I chose the Desert path for completion's sake (I went up Aether then over to Desert to fight Ignis and Gargewhatever in Ashley's Tale and in Thage's I went up Forest and jumped over to fight Arkanos). And it was terrible.

First stage was a huge pain to get through without skipping the chests, the second stage was just a massive whore... the conditions to lure out the boss were to capture/kill the two Cancer Gigas, and nothing else. And I mean my party was too weak to consistently overkill that many enemies, so I basically had to skip all of them and go straight for the two Gigas. And then Terranus was infinitely annoying because you are getting sniped the whole time by BEES. And I don't really remember the rest... but I forgot to kill half the enemies on Amirhage's stage too, so there's more terribleness. The game also tried to tell me his name was Amirage when I captured him. Stupid Atlus they didn't even try to edit this game.

But yeah it's like Olifen's team is all weak. Levatte's healing until he gets his class change is just not enough despite that being the only thing he's good for, and dies way too easily. Logue is too slow to get any EXP ever so he ends up being underlevelled and thus cannot equip decent weapons. Olifen and Marie are good but they're not good enough until the class change... it's just horrible until then in every way. Anyway now bullets:

• So, with the second time fighting Arkanos, Sister of Troy/Cursed Blood actually played like it's supposed to. And it was amazing. I'm still very angry that it did not on my first playthrough. And I don't understand why. Must have been a glitch.
• So the refugee Shelayla is Olifen's grandmother. Yep. And she had been flirting with him the entire time while apparently knowing this.
• Crimson Mage Marie is the boss. Doing 504 damage in a single strike to Penumbra and always yelling SAVING THE DAAAAAAY. She's also like the only likeable character in this story.
• I like Scytodida/Aranea and Sprites. They are just cool designs. Even if the Scytodida are vaginaspiders... something about it seems genius in a horrifying way.
• SO THEN I BLEW UP EVERYTHING WITH MARIE AND STARTED RONDEMION'S TALE. And they gave me Velnor to start with... I'd never gotten/used him before so I never knew his arms were like noodles in his 3DCGturnedto2Dsprite. And here I was thinking Ares's tentaclearms were silly.
• Rondemion's arms bother me. With all that facial hair I feel like his arms should be hair, but they're almost as hairless as any other anime character. IT LOOKS WRONG.
• Apparently enemies that take up four squares can stand on all sorts of ridiculous height variations at once. This enemy was standing on four squares that were all different heights, and there was a 4 point difference between the highest and lowest of them. It was weird. :(
• DUPHASTON IS SO FUNNY WHEN HE JOINS. He's all "PLEEEEEEEEASE, you may me D from now on. It is what allllll my gooooooood friends call me." And it just sounded so wrong with the way he was saying it.
• Best characters in the game right here. "WHAT IF THAT LITTLE GIRL YOU'VE BEEN HANGIN' WITH TURNS OUT TO BE THAT MAJIN YOU'RE TRYING TO KILL." "lol not listening to this." Depressed manly man with crazy fabulous guy is perfect combination.
• So for Duphaston's Tale I brought out Luxaphel for the final boss because everything was weak to light for some reason and he has crazy HP even if he is weak to all physical attacks. Plus he can heal. AQUAMOTES AND LUXAPHEL 4EVER ETC. Also the final boss looks weird when it's white. And uh. I inflicted Bleed on him. And with his max HP, that meant he lost 200 HP every time he moved, attacked, or got attacked. Yeah, he died fast.
• Final final final boss yeaaah. OH WAIT FINAL BOSS NOOO BECAUSE IT RESISTS ALL MAGIC AND I HAVE TO KILL HER HANDS FIRST AND SHE RECOVERS 300 HP EVERY TURN AND THE GAME FROZE ON ME WHEN I GOT HER DOWN TO 400 HP. :( This game only ever freezes on me at the worst possible times. My second try went much faster though since I knew what to do and not do in terms of dealing damage to her/her hands.

So I've beat the entire game. Woo! That was fun.
